Welcome!
This last week has been very productive. The sixth grade students are working towards the end of their unit. The green students finished the week with a vocabulary quiz and will have a unit test on Monday. The gold students will begin next Monday with a vocabulary quiz and a unit test on that following Wednesday. Both classes had received information about a unit project. The green class will have theirs due next Wednesday, and the gold class will present theirs on next Thursday. Both classes will have a in-class project work day on next Tuesday. I have computers they can use if they are making a powerpoint and such.
The seventh grade students are reaching the end of their unit. The green class took their vocabulary quiz and unit test, as well as the next unit's pretest. Over the weekend, they are to look at their unit test and make corrections. The gold class finished the week with their vocabulary quiz and will start off next Monday with a unit test.
The eighth grade students are reaching the end of their unit, as well. They can expect a test within the next week. They are continuing to learn about the properties and characteristics of linear equations. Reminder: all students and parents have access to the Edmodo account to receive daily updates. Have a great weekend!

Week of 9-2-2013
Hello,
We are now into the fourth week of school. Tests are approaching! The sixth grade students are finishing up their Prime Time unit. They should expect a test coming up in about a week. We will introduce their unit project next week, as well. The seventh grade students are finishing up their unit, as well. The green class should expect a test next Wednesday, and the gold class should expect a test the Monday following next week. The eighth grade students are working through the challenging problems of linear equations. They are working towards the end of their unit, as well. We are finalizing some adjustments with the ALEKS and First In Math requirements. Announcement concerning such will go home when decisions are finalized. If students are continuing to have trouble at home, please have them contact me through email and/or use Edmodo.com.
Have a great weekend!

Welcome! Week of 8-26-2013
Welcome!
This last week has been very productive. All six classes work very hard in the math classroom. The sixth grade students are continuing to work in their Prime Time Unit. They will have a test approaching in two weeks. The seventh grade students are working hard in their Variables and Patterns unit. They will be approaching how to pull a linear equation from a story problem. The eighth grade students are looking at how to write linear equations given different slopes, y-intercepts, and points on the line.
Have a great long 4-day weekend!

Welcome!
Welcome to another great year at Holy Spirit!
If you are interested in the back-to-school night information that was distributed, please email me letting me know. epusti@holyspirit-indy.org
As we begin the school year, the students are learning procedures for the school and the math classroom. Thus far, the students have been doing a great job in the classroom! I am so impressed with the way they are choosing to start off school. We hope to work hard and let it continue throughout the year!
Within the first week and a half of school, each grade has taken a pre-test. After looking at the completed pre-tests, I was able to adjust their lesson plans to best fit their needs. The sixth grade students are working in the Prime Time unit. They will learn the more in depth concepts of number theory. The seventh grade students are working with Variables and Patterns. They will be learning about linear equations and models, as well as graphing data and patterns. The eighth grade students are working in the Thinking with Mathematical Model unit. They will be reviewing the key concepts of linear equations, in order to help further build a background before moving into exponential and quadratic equations. They will work a lot with solving linear equations, as well.
I have a classroom Edmodo website. All students have returned a permission slip signed by a parent for this usage. Each student has also had a Syllabus slip signed by a parent, concerning the procedures and expectations of the classroom. If you need a copy of both, please email me.
If there are any additional questions/concerns, please do not hesitate to contact me. Thank you!

Hello,
The sixth grade green class has spent the week, giving their final project presentations. The sixth grade gold class has been working hard with adding, subtracting, multiplying, and dividing decimals. They should expect a vocabulary quiz and test next week. The seventh grade students are continuing to look at data with bar graphs, stem-and-leaf plots, and line plots. They should expect a vocabulary quiz and test next week. The eighth grade students are working hard towards the end of this unit, Shapes of Algebra. They are working on solving systems of equations with graphing, substitution, and combination. They should expect a test next week, finishing off their last week as eighth graders. This is the eighth grade student's last week on ALEKS. Next week will be the seventh and sixth graders last week on ALEKS. They must master at least 3 topics per week.

Hello,
The students are working hard in the math classroom. Each week, they should be continuously practicing their math skills on ALEKS, mastering at least 3 topics per week. The sixth grade green class has finished up their 6th grade math units and are reviewing the material covered this year. They will soon be presenting their unit projects. The sixth grade gold class is work hard. They just recently finished their unit on probability and have began learning how to add and subtract decimals. The seventh grade students finished up their unit on probability, as well. They are beginning their last unit of the year, Data Distributions. The eighth grade students are working hard, learning the concepts of slope-intercept form and standard form. All students should continue to stay focused and work hard to finish off the year just right.
